Stephen King wrote his first original screenplay for this horror gore fest that features cameos by directors Clive Barker, Joe Dante, Tobe Hooper, John Landis, and King himself (playing a cemetery attendant). The story concerns a twilight people named "sleepwalkers" --creatures similar to vampires and werewolves whose faces turn animalistic whenever they are frightened or angry and who require the lifeforce of a virgin to survive. A single-parent sleepwalker family, consisting of Mary Brady (Alice Krige) and her son Charles (Brian Krause), have taken up residence in a small Indiana town. Charles has expressed a romantic interest in the attractive Tanya Robertson (Madchen Amick), a girl in his high school literature class. Mary wants Charles to lure Tanya home so that she can suck out her life force, but it appears that Charles has fallen in love with her --that is, until their first date, at a picnic at the cemetery. There Charles changes from a shy romantic suitor into a brutal and violent force, slapping Tanya around and attempting to rape her. But Tanya wards off his advances by plunging a corkscrew into his torso. Charles staggers back home to mother, where she nurses him back to health. Then Charles and his mother seek vengeance upon the Robertson family. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

This is suspenseful and a god entertaining Stephen King flick. There is not a lot of gore in it but a good plot with good acting, and it flows smoothly. Not that long as well.

I guess it's wise to have a cat around the house these days. God those were some ugly creatures!

Knowing a little of the history behind the creation of this and that it wasn't based on any story of his, I gave it a chance and wasn't disappointed. A very interesting idea and excellent movie. Had more than enough shocks to keep you jumping. Well worth renting and adding to your collection if you're a fan of Stephen King.

Good old 80s Horror flick. It was pretty good for its time. Some good freakiness, and good fun. Not having read the book, I don't know how it compares.

I thought this movie was pretty good. Not so much scary and the effects were really weak but the plot was original. The thing I have noticed about Stephen Kings movies is that they are really drug out and take too long to get to the point, this movie wasn't really like that. It wasn't that long and weird things started happening almost instantly after the movie started. I enjoyed watching this movie but I thought it could have been better.

I can't believe that Stephen King would allow movie producers to make such a crappy and utterly stupid movie as this. The plot must have taken all of 3 minutes to write down. The stars acted like robots wandering around in a daze and wearing tons of fake looking blood. The acting by the cats was far better than the humans. I just wish one of those cats would have clawed this movie to pieces.

it starts out great but then when something actually happens it becomes so cheesy you'll want to puke.

This movie is so bad that it's entertaining. Terrible acting, cheesy effects and no plot. I kept watching it to see how bad it could get.
