Read More An absolute must see of the horrific occupation of the Japanese conquest of Nanking in 1937. Brutal, compelling, and emotionally stirring--a tribute to the Chinese people capacity for endurance of but one chapter of their struggle to survive amidst unspeakable suffering. Read More The book was better however the film captures the attrocities committed during the Japanese invasion outwardly contradicting the propaganda they were providing to the foreign media. This film will devastate you! It's heartbreaking to see how women and children were raped, tortured and murdered for no reason other than being Chinese. To this day the Japanese gov't states the facts are overstated and will not admit or apologize for it's war attricities. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

aware of. The mindset of the Japanese military, in the early half of the 20th century, can be glimpsed in this docudrama of what happened in the Chinese city of Nanking.
Unfortunately, Nanking wasn't the only example of the cruelty and atrocities committed
by the Japanese during that era. Similar outrages were the rule wherever the feet of
the "Knights of Bushido" trod, be it China or elsewhere in Asia. The heartless behavior of the Japanese military towards both conquered peoples and prisoners of war, will forever be a disgrace and shame on the name and the character of that country--especially with Japan unwilling to admit their deeds and still honoring the perpetrators of these ghastly and horrific acts.
