I cannot see how the writers expected viewers to get behind this main character. Just because there are clever put downs and come backs does not make this a good film. It should be reworked. Not worth your time. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Well, I want to know who is the title directed to? We, the audience, or the people that wrote it to try and make us, the really smart people, feel dumb for watching it? I guess I wasted so much time with trying to realize what this movie was all about that i forgot to care about the dumb characters. If I had written this I would have made the adpted brother the smart one, who they all come to think of as a worthless individual. The way it was written, acted and portarayed I could have cared less about what intergrity the story was trying to preserve. In other words, these poeple were not smart at all. Maybe a little book smart. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

We did laugh at only one part and that gave us a little hope for the movie but it was faded quickly.
Sorry producers of Smart People, NOT a very smart movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More If you need one word to sum up this film, that word is FLAT! Dennis Quaid is miscast as the depressed college professor/father (is that very fake gut pillow necessary?) And Jessica Parkerwho's the new girlfriend/physician(do doctors in hospitals really wear their hair dangling down around their shoulders all day while seeing patients?), is also working beyond her range here. What is supposed to be dark comedy is unconvincing and forced. You get the feeling there was no time for rehearsing scenes which only magnifies Quaid and Parkers' limitations. The characters are so under developed that you end up having to believe these people here are what they are and do what they do, simply because the others say so. Even the talented Haden Church (Sideways) and Ellen Page (Juno) are wasted on a very stiff screenplay.
I don't think fans of any of these four actors will find any satisfaction in this uninteresting tale.

Read More Dennis Quaid has never looked worse, he made me uncomfortable in his portrayal of a middle-aged, fat-stomached professor. And what a waste of Sarah Jessica Parker and Ellen Page, these ladies are such great actresses and they can certainly do better than this kind of depressing story that no one wants to really know about anyway...
Thomas Hayden-Church was annoying, enough said.
When I was through watching it, I wondered why I even finished it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
