Sheena (1984) Reviews

For having a PG rating, someone was asleep at the wheel. It seems like there are more minutes of topless nudity in this film than the average 'R'-rated sexploitation film. Aside from that, it is mostly 'G' material with a below-average script and sub-par acting. Given a decent director, script, and a good acting coach, Tanya Roberts might have turned into a really good actress. Nevertheless, this DVD does have a decent musical score, great location shots, lots of real animals, and both the widescreen and full screen versions. The action is mostly centered on the screen, so there is very little panning in the full screen version. BB doesn’t rate the films, but this is solid ‘R’ material for nudity and is definitely not for the kids.

OK, so it's a stupid plot. OK, so Tanya isn't Faye Dunnaway. But.....it can be an entertaining venture, just as the comic by that same name was fun. I think the most interesting thing is to see Roberts at that age/stage and then watch her in her supporting role in the TV series, That 70's Show, as the good looking, bimbo mom of the co star. There are some cool technical gotchas, like the helicopter with the guns taped to the skids, the stereotyped merc colonel who just relishes killing people, the fingers pressed to the forehead to summon obedient jungle animals and the horse painted to look like a zebra, but I suggest none of this is any worse than watching, say, America's Next Top Model, or LOST, or NASCAR races, all of which qualify as dumber than this one.

Sheena: a movie about a female Tarzan with nice boobies and the civilized man who fell for them, er, I mean for her. Not a bad soundtrack, set at exotic locations with fair acting performances. However, cheesy story about natives going up against tanks and jeeps with thier birds and lions to end enviromental abuse.
