Now that I have seen the film, I must agree with all of those reviews that this is a great film, the best of Adam Sandler, a moving experiance, yet with some lighthearted moments which, as part of the story, make an excellent balance with the downer that Adam plays. A powerful drama, but enjoyable. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It also pulled at your heartstrings. Most of the movie kept me involved in the lives of the characters. I thought there was one scene that tried a little too hard to make the viewer cry and sob, but most of the movie was done very well. If you are in the mood for a movie that can make you cry and laugh this one does it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I was very impressed with the acting in this movie, especially Sandler who completely sold being mentally disturbed. The story as a whole is very touching, and has an excellent ending. The reason this gets 4 stars is because one the producing was a little off, and a couple things about it bothered me, and two because the movie did get a little akward in the middle (although this was compensated with a strong ending). It is a rather somber story about the demons that can haunt you after a tremendous personal tradgedy. To not relate to this movie is to never have experienced a personal tradgedy or loss in your life. If you have never felt the devastation of losing someone that you truly love you probably can't appreciate the emotions that are portrayed in this film. A truly captivating piece of work. This should be nominated for an Academy Award. The people who did not appreciate this film quite simply haven't had many of the experiences that life hands you and they were disapointed that it wasn't fun and games. Read More This film is quite depressing, which is nowhere intimated in the synopsis; still, I was not very moved, partly because it seems so unrealistic that two former roommates would rekindle their friendship after one had so clearly become mentally ill -- and a powderkeg, at that.. Actually, there are many unbelievable parts in the film, far too many to go into here. Can't fault the acting -- Cheadle and Sandler make a great team, and Sandler, in particular, displays a great, hitherto, hidden talent for drama -- but some of the dialogue is embarassingly bad, there's nothing special about the cinematography, and I became too depressed to find many laughs. I know I shouldn't quibble, but -- hey, scriptwriter: dental school is not college! It's grad school! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Unfortunately one painfully long and depressing movie. Sandler should stick to his comedic roles which he is excellent at (I digress, ever notice how 80's music is in almost if not all his films, he's a big fan of 80's music, and this one doesnt disappoint). Where it disappoints, is if I were Don Chedle's character, I would have totally dumped my friend if he was behaving like such an a**. Dont show this to the kids - alot of nice sexual references (actually, not references, more like direct in your face language).
Anyway, I give it a half star for the neat scenes of NY, and cause I like Sandlers stand up scooter. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
