However, it will definitely not appeal to everyone, especially those who prefer lighthearted dramas. But if you enjoy terrific acting, a well-written story, beautiful scenery, and like your dramas to have âdrama,â I highly recommend Romulus, My Father. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More Stunningly photographed story of a young boy growing up and surviving in spite of being surrounded by adults who are really messed up. Young Kodi Smit-McPhee is a revelation as the boy. Martin Csokas is outstanding as his father's best friend. The continually unfolding dysfunction with which the boy has to face gets a little overwhelming at times (you'll keep thinking, "That poor kid. That poor kid!!!"). But ultimately this is a story of hope and life springing forth from great melancholy. An evocative and memorable film. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Great perfomances from Bana, Potente & McPhee. The mother-son relationship really bothered me. I really felt emotionally attached to the boy. A definite drama, so if you don't like movies without bells & whistles - you won't appreciate this one. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This movie was sad but interesting with atyipcal scenery and characters. Often the 9 year old boy seemed to act more like an adult than any of the adults did, but it felt real. The thing that bugged me most was the title, because the story did not seem primarily about the father; it was about a boy and his whole family. I thought it was worth watching for the good acting, as well as the memorable depiction of how depression affects a family in a very deep way when the depressed person is truly loved without condition.
