I was prepared prepared for a "dog of a film" since the director (JJ Abrams) wasn't even a fan of the series. The young actors chosen to play the characters from the original TV series were very good and the the characters their own. The story and the directing were solid; there was plenty of action in this film as well as drama. Leonard Nimoy's appearance in the movie was excellent and it provided a bridge from the original cast to the new cast of this movie; Nimoy's role was not just a cameo appearance. I look forward to more Star Trek films utilizing this new cast. Highly recommended for those who are Star Trek fans. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

One might what to look into the Trek rudiments, though, before watching the film as some of the history was a bit lost on me. Definitely worth watching! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More I have seen all the star trek movies I have seen every show and own of all the series on DVD. This is the first movie that really made me think of the people i.e. characters as human beings. All the actors did an excellent job. They did Star Trek proud and respectfully. I was leery at first but I am glad I saw the movie. IT IS A MUST SEE Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More The creators of this particular mis-named Star Trek movie seemed to be using brute-force, with logic tossed to the winds, to convert Star Trek into Star Wars. A jumble of alternate realities, a serious lack of plot and logical dialogue. We have seen all the Star Trek episodes from the first one through all the movies up to now. This one was an either a half-hearted parody or an insult to our intelligence. It is the first Star Trek production to which we give a complete thumbs down. It would have been better to have made it an outright parody, like the very enjoyable movie, "Galaxy Quest," which made good clean fun of Star Trek. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More Star Trek was one of my favorite TV programs way back when and it did bring back some lovely memories. However, I don't think this movie met up to all of the media hype. I also got a little confused with the present and future Spock talking to each other. And it seemed a bit contrived for Kirk to meet the old Spock in the cave just as he was about to be devoured. Maybe I missed something. Overall, though, it was entertaining. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I can't believe that there was an intimate relationship between Kirk and Spock as young men! What is this, sci-fi Brokeback Mountain?!? Everything these days has to push the envelope it seems. Gene Roddenberry is rolling over in his grave, God rest his soul. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
