Probably too generous, but the subject matter is powerful even if not portrayed effectively enough in the movie. I normally enjoy true stories, but not this one. So I wonder: Is this not a movie-worthy topic? or Did poor acting and emotionless characters ruin it for me? Truthfully, it was probably both. I would not watch this movie again, nor would I recommend it to anyone Yes, it is sad what happened to Daniel Pearl. Yes, it is tragic what his family had to endure. Unfortunately, the viewer gets none of that in this emotion-less portrayal of the events that transpired. This movie made for 108 minutes of bad viewing. Most of the story focused upon the meetings between various factions as they attempt to find Mr. Pearl. Showing what he might have endured may have been a better, gut-wrenching angle. Of minor note, the text displaying additional details (e.g., date of events and what eventually happened to characters) is too small and difficult to read. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More This was a moving depiction of the heartache that followed Marianne Pearl after Daniel disappeared. It was believable and I thought Jolie played the role perfectly. Many have commented that her accent seemed to come and go throughout the movie -- I myself didn't notice this and found her performance to be amazing and true to life. Read More Angelina Jolie gives a remarkable performance as Mariane Pearl in the days following her husband's disappearance, one of the finest of Angelina's career. "A Mighty Heart" wrenched the guts out of me, especially the scene in which Mariane breaks down and cries in the solitude of her bedroom, and again at the finale. The film is presented in a realistic and journalistic style completely appropriate for the topic. It is mighty and full of heart and will stay with me for a long time. Read More The story & tragedy of Wall Street journalist, David Pearl is portrayed in this docudrama. It sensitively relays the events leading up to, during the search for him, and aftermath of his death as experience by his pregant wife Marianne (Angela Jolie) A welcome relief of Hollywoodism which could have and usually destroys the pathos of tragedy with too much drama, this movie focuses on the experiences of her in a realistic, almost underplaying manner, unusual in Hollywood film. And what was that accent Angelina was trying to pull off?, Translyvania? It certainly wasn't French. Like other people said, you really didn't learn anything new about the kidnapping until the very end. Basically, the movie could have been 2 minutes long. Do not waste your time. Read More Say what you want about her personal life, but Angelina Jolie truly shines in this movie based on Mariane Pearl's memoir. The movie does go slow in some parts and there are several scenes that are not in English without subtitles. Angie should definitely be nominated for an Oscar for her performance in this film. No subtitles are shown during scenes when English is not spoken. A random child is shown through out the movie for no apparent reason; I found those scenes humorous and annoying at the same time. All and All I am glad I took the time to watch the film. The movie is only saved by the fact it is based on a true story. I feel I gained some insight on the tragedy.
