It probably reflects my own advancing age that I found little to empathize with in Colin Firth's forty-something son, still whining over imagined past slights inflicted by his now-dying father. Don't be surprised if you find yourself screaming "get over it" at your TV screen. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This is a thoughtful piece about the conflicting emotions a man suffers upon losing a father he both loved and hated. The flashbacks and the unanswered questions were handled well, and the acting/characterization was good. I enjoyed the movie overall, but I think it would be too slow for folks who love lots of action. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This is a poignant movie about relationships with fathers. It shows that even if you have a less than perfect relationship with your father, the memories, good or bad, are all important. Not a tear jerker movie, for me at least, but it gives you a lot to think about. Great learning movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I wished there could have been a little more about the daughter's perspective as well. The son masturbating in his room was uncalled for and unneccesary. It had nothing to do with the plot. And who wants to see that anyway. That scene ruined what could have been a nice story. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

But after watching it, I'd have seen it without Colin being in it. It makes you think about any family relationship and how we perceive things. I love foreign films anyway. Read More it wasn't that great...it was hard to understand at times and there were no English subtitles. It had a good premise but it spent too much time focusing on his father's affair and it just got annoying. I wanted to see his relationship with his son, not his mistress!!!
