Read More I wasn't sure what to expect as I saw it when there was very little publicity and though a fan of Samantha Morton I had never heard of Sam Riley though I am not generally one that that needs a big cast as much as good subject and a seemingly intelligent storyline. This film has both and and as a moderate fan of Joy Division, I was interested to see this film, and what a powerful film it is. The look takes a second but I was soon utterly immersed and while Samantha Morton's role of the sweet and devoted partner is one she can do with her eyes closed, she delivers a very strong performance. Enter Sam Riley, in my opinion it only happens occasionally but this is just such an occasion. When you watch pure genius, this kid is riveting tortured confident and belies such incredible vulnerability completely masked by the genius that was Ian Curtis. Suffice it to say, it is an incredible journey and definitely one of the best films I saw last year. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More The film, "Control" is as good a rock bio-pic that I can remember, keeping in mind that this is meant to be a film about Ian Curtis, not about Joy Division as such. Ian's struggles with epilepsy, alcohol and medication abuse, and most of all his relationship with people, including his wife Debbie, his French girlfriend Annik, the band members, and last but not least, himself. As the movie goes on, and Ian's moods turn darker, it becomes more difficult to watch, because you now how it all will end. The movie is appropriately shot in black and white. The acting is outstanding, none more so than Sam Riley as Ian Curtis. Special thanks to the four actors playing the Joy Division songs. This is not a playback or dubbed: it's the actors themselves playing the music, and they did a great job at it. I thought that Anton Corbijn did an outstanding job as well in directing this film. It seemed like a low budget film school movie. Slower than molasses and just plain boring. The subject matter was interesting yet they managed to lull you to sleep with slow pause after slow pause. I really thought this was going to be a good movie and was let down completely. I didnt want to watch the whole thing but i stuck it out figuring it might get better towards the end. They even managed to mke Ian's suicide boring as well. Unless your a huge Joy Division or low budget movie fan dont waste your time. If your having some insomnia and need to fall asleep then this film is for you. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
