I can't explain exactly what makes this such a good movie, because taking it apart requires very little effort. The story is very simple. Cuban criminal comes to America with big dreams, shoots a few people, sells some coke, makes some money, does a lot of coke, lurches around spewing catchphrases right and left, does some more coke, and then goes out in a hail of gunfire. Not the best material for a movie? Wrong. Because Scarface has become a very well-known, if violent and aggressive, movie. I'd give a good seventy percent of the praise to Al Pacino. He makes the character likeable, and endows him with that ever-lovable and mimicable accent. The other praise can go to Brian De Palma and his screenwriters for giving us that last line. They're paranoid jerks. They both treat their wives terribly and turn against their closest friends and family. There isn't anything to admire in either character and the only way you can feel sorry for them is if you like them simply for being badasses. They're not the charming criminals of Ocean's Eleven and they definitely don't really love anyone other than themselves. I was very disappointed. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
