Novelist David Soul returns to his hometown of Salem, finding that things have changed a bit. More than a bit, in fact: the previously warm and friendly community is downright sinister. Soul suspects that the bizarre behavior of his onetime friends and neighbors is the handiwork of oddball antique dealer James Mason. We won't reveal here the secret of Salem; suffice to say that the action goes directly to the jugular, and that makeup artists Jack Young and Ben Lane won an Emmy nomination. Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, Salem's Lot was originally telecast in two parts on November 17 and 24, 1979; it was subsequently pared down to a single three-hour installment, which in turn was whittled down to about two hours for cable-TV play. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
I was looking forward to watching this classic Stephen King again as I remember the movie scaring the heck outta me 30 years ago. Well, some things stand the test of time and others don't. Sadly, this lame flick is in the latter category. It's long and boring and David Soul is just silly. In the Danny Glick window-floating scene you can see the hoist holding him. Do NOT waste your time on this one except possibly as a cure for insomnia.
Excellent! the story line and the action keep going and never get dull, a must see! The Vampire looks great and David Soul and James Mason along with Lance Kerwin Rock!!
Although it is a pretty drawn out movie, there are scenes that scare me to this day. Agreed Randall that the Danny Glick scene is my favorite but the rocking chair, the morgue and the kitchen are all killers as well.
This movie is based off of one of Stephen Kings best novels. The novel was fantastic. The movie stuck with the novel pretty closely. The vampire is old school scary looking; what many current movies base their vampires on (except the ones that glitter or course). Overall a good movie and worth watching.
Stephen Kingâs mini series about vampires provides us with an average vampire movie. The movie has good dialogue and classic scenes but lacks excitement even though there are less drawn out scenes then the remake. I was disappointed because this movie did not have a good atmosphere unlike the remake. I would check out the remake before the original, both are long good story driven movies.
This movie is horrible. Trust me when I say, this is 180 minutes you can never get back. It's a TV movie and I'm not really sure how anyone made it to the 3rd installment. Nothing happens for 2 hours and 40 minutes. It's just long, boring, and drawn out. There are way better Stephen King horror movie than this pile of crud.
