Billy Wilder directs the lighthearted romantic comedy Sabrina, based on the play by Samuel A. Taylor. Sabrina Fairchild (Audrey Hepburn) is the simple, naïve daughter of a chauffeur, Thomas Fairchild (John Williams). They live on an estate with the wealthy Oliver Larrabee (Walter Hampden) and his two sons: workaholic older brother Linus (Humphrey Bogart) and fun-loving younger brother David (William Holden). Sabrina adores the charming David, but he thinks of her as just a kid. Her father sends her away to Paris for chef school, where she meets Baron St. Fontanel (Marcel Dalio), and she returns a worldly, sophisticated woman. David immediately falls for her, but he is already engaged to marry heiress Elizabeth Tyson (Martha Hyer). Sabrina wants to break up the wedding in order to finally catch the man of her dreams, while Linus fights to keep the marriage on in the interest of family business and Mr. Tyson's (Francis X. Bushman) fortune. In order to keep Sabrina away from David, Linus pretends to court her himself. In doing so, they eventually realize their true feelings for each another. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi

Other than the ghastly mistake of dyeing William Holden's hair blonde, this is a wonderfully acted movie that pulls at the heart strings. At first, you wonder what the heck they were thinking about when they cast Humphrey Bogart in the role of Linus. Then light dawns and you understand that the role of Linus must be played by someone who seems a bit out of character while romancing Sabrina. I love the household staff (all great character actors) who are Sabrina's extended adopted family.

Definatly a classic! Plus if you love Audrey Hepburn this is one of her great films. Also it's totally a chick flick! Overall great film.

If you like classic movies or Audrey Hepburn (who doesn't?), this is a must-see. Hepburn is absolutely wonderful as Sabrina, and both Bogart and Holden make both of their characters uniquely annoying in the way that makes it difficult to find out what Sabrina is going to eventually do about her situation with the family. Both this and the modern version (with Harrison Ford) are excellent films telling the same story.

This original version of Sabrina is by far superior to the remake of the 1990's with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond. The focus on this film is where it needs to be, on the title character. This is a classy romantic comedy, with Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn giving excellent performances. Highly recommended over the remake.

Interesting enough story, characters, and comedy to watch once. Nothing special enough to deserve more than three stars.
