Hello friends. I'm just here to warn you about this edition. I love this movie, however the "extra" footage that they add in seems to take away from the nostalgic experience I seek when watching this film. *SPOILER* For instance, they add a scene depicting the Sheriff having his scribe's tongue removed, and there are subsequent scenes added with the scribe using a chalkboard to communicate. However, the original scene near the end is still intact where the scribe tells them Nottingham is, and I quote, "That way, up the stairs". If they're going to add scenes to the movie, I wish they would put more thought into it instead of just pieceing it together like a children's puzzle.

I am a big Robin Hood fan, so I was very critical. I wanted more, I loved the casting costumes and set, along with the way is was set up and scripted. I wish they had put more from the book by Howard Pyle into it, but then it would be way to long. I have seen a lot of Robin Hood movies and this one was the best!!!

Costner looks good as Robin Hood, but his acting is noticeably lame. There is plenty of good action, though sometimes it's corney and melodramatic, or--in the case of a "humorous" scene of attempted rape--in bad taste. The best part of the movie is a surprise appearance at the end. (When I saw this at the theater, the audience cheered in delight.)

The original movie was an amazing retelling of Robin Hood and this special edition DVD is even better. It adds over 12 minutes of additional material not shown in the original cut. They have actually restored the new footage so that it blends with the rest of the movie (other DVD's in the past have offered additional scenes, but they looked more like VHS than DVD). You also get 2 incredible commentaries. 1 by Director Keven REYNOLDS and Actor KEVIN COSTNER and 1 by the Producers, MORGAN FREEMAN, and CHRISTIAN SLATER. Both commentary tracks are great and are not hashed together from interviews. The actors actually watch the movie and talk you through it. 1 of the best special edition DVD's available.

I saw this one when it first came out. Pretty good interpretation of the Robin Hood saga all the way around.
