Ride the Wild Surf (1964) Reviews

BOOMER ALERT: A stellar cast of early sixties teen idols including Fabian, Tab Hunter, James Mitchum (son of Robert and nearly as charismatic). Also on the scene are Shelly Fabares (the thinking man's Annette), Barbara Eden acting completely babe-a-licious and the amazing SUSAN HART, who performs a thunderous thigh shimmying hula that will leave what remains of your pimply teenage soul shaken to the core! This isn't a "Beach Party" movie, it's spozed to be a serious flick, but don't hold that against it. The plot's an afterthought but there's just enough great vintage surfing shot at Waimea Bay to break it up nicely. The only problem is the music - there's a Jan & Dean surf song but they tacked it over the end credits and the rest is Hollywood schmaltz of the period. Okay, this forgotten gem not for everyone... but If you grew up during the surfing craze you will probably dig this movie the most!
