A man who is suddenly without feelings is motivated by a love he isn't quite sure is there in this offbeat independent comedy. Hudson (Matthew Perry) is a screenwriter who has enjoyed a modest success in Hollywood, but one day he suddenly and inexplicably sinks into a strange funk -- he feels strangely removed from the world around him, as if reality has slipped away and he can't physically or emotionally feel his surroundings. Hudson's writing partner Tom (Kevin Pollock) is more than a bit disturbed by the sudden change in Hudson's demeanor, and on his advice he begins seeing the first of several psychiatrists, most of whom prescribe a dizzying variety of drugs, except for Dr. Blaine (Mary Steenburgen), who is turned on by Hudson's condition and ends up having an affair with him. As Hudson seems to be running out of ways to reconnect with himself, he meets Sarah (Lynn Collins), a beautiful woman who is quite taken with him and decides to introduce him to as many positive and compelling experiences as possible. The first feature-length directorial project for screenwriter Harris Goldberg, Numb received its North American premiere at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This movie has about two or three good scenes in it and the rest is like watching the grass grow. Mathew perry plays a disfuctiional psycotic and actually makes it BORING to watch. The only good part is when his lady shrink acts crazier than he is!!!..Otherwise the REST of the movie is a BORE. A solid two to three star movie at best.

Unlike many here, I liked the movie. I thought that Matthew Perry did a phenomenal acting job in the movie. He truly captured the mood and you could believe that he had this disease. I think it's more of a drama/comedy then just a comedy since it does deal with some heavy issues. But, it actually deals with some of that in a light-hearted way. It was really interesting to know that writer/director Harris Goldberg was actually telling the story of himself.

i was really excited to watch this movie and to tell you the truth it disappointed me. It was really slow, depressing, and overall not that great. There were some parts that i liked but overall the movie was ok.

That's what they should have called this movie, "Dumb". I think mental health professionals might resent the attempt to make light of mental illness, including the premise that Perry became disphoric after bogarting a joint. The only gag that worked for me was when he says "Run," to Kevin Pollack as Mary Steenburgen chases Perry out of the country club restaurant. And that's about as original as the ending -- the old if you love me you'll meet me at our spot tomorrow. Slow, plodding, dumb. Left me numb.

I kept waiting for it to get better and got really really bored. What a waste of talent or what I thought was talent. So dissapointed in Matthew Perry he brought nothing to it and Mary Steenburger was in a silly role that didn't have any real dignity. Premise for the whole movie was poor, plot development poor, resolution poor. His diagnosis is just one symptom of a subset of symptomes that make up a mental diagnosis. Lousy movie.

I rarely turn off a movie before I've reached the end, but this was numb/dumb/boring. Waste of time.

kind of a dark movie and I can't remember laughing once... out of character for Matthew Perry and somewhat a waste of his talent.
