Read More I loved this miniseries. Beautifully photographed and perfectly characterized, it reminds me of Lonesome Dove, but also of the unflinching nature of Unforgiven. Duvall is at the top of his game, playing a character he's done so well for so long that we can't help but smile. Haden Church is the surprise, playing the reluctant hero with quiet stoicism, coming to grips with the requirements for killing and the possibilities of love. And Greta Scacchi is marvelous in an against-type role as a woman who still can love and wants to be loved, despite her checkered past. Her scenes with Duvall are gentle and magical. And the exquisite sound editing make every scene come alive...I compare it to "Master and Commander" in its realism and engagement. Not to be missed as a TV movie...it could easily have played the theaters. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Beautiful... but it slowed down the story and action so much I started to lose interest along the way.. Robert Duvall is the quintessential cowboy.....can't beat his performance in any western. Didn't like this nearly as much as Lonesome Dove, one of my all time favorites. It was just OK. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Unfortunately, that disk ended and Blockbuster did not send me the 2nd disk. When I put this in my queue, I didn't realize it was split between discs. That seems absurd to only watch the first 1:30 minutes and then have to wait 3 days to watch the last 1:30. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I loved Lonesome Dove and I like Robert Duvall but this movie just seemed very amateur. The direction and editing were poor, with random scenes thrown together and shots badly set up. There is little suspense or drama, as there could have been when Thomas Hayden Church's character hunts down a thieving pimp - the unrealistic scene is over in about 20 seconds. There is some pretty cinematography with shots of wild horses galloping through the green hill country of the northwest, but at the same time shots and characters just seem too clean and polished for cowboy life in the outdoors. This is definitely no Lonesome Dove. I must admit though that I was only able to make it through about the first hour of the movie - I didn't want to waste anymore of my life. I gave this movie a try because of the glowing reviews on this site; hopefully this review balances them a bit. Give it a try if you like, you may disagree with me, but you've been warned.
