Some of the scenes are so beautiful that the epic over two and half hours long movie fades away into your heart. Sean Penn has done what very few directors in the world could achieve - adapting an already best-seller book, adding a new dimension to make it by far, a complete experience. Read More I liked the story and thought it was interesting the way his journey was intertwined with his life in Alaska, the people he met I wish he had taken the advice of some of the people along the way and at least talked to his parents. Worth watching, it is very long though. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

My wife, who comes from Idaho, tells me people like the hero in this film, can often be seen backpacking through, on Idaho highways.
The hero was too certain of his idealism. But I'll admit this. I woke up the next morning still responding to him in "Into the Wild.".... This movie will stick with me for some time. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Well-executy, oddly triumphant, definitively sad true story of 24 year old Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) who obsessively pursues a solo trek into the wilds of Alaska. Along the way he meets various people in their own way still on a journey--who help him pursue his goal of stubbornly clinging to an ideal of "truth" apart from materialism offered by well-to-do, dysfunctional parents. Great combination of a nature film, societal commentary, and biography of a boy struggling to find his "self" apart from the easy path laid out for him. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? college. But, if you're not in a dark place it is not too bad. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This movie was well acted and beautifully filmed. However, it was twice as long as it needed to be and made an clearly apparent effort to make heroic a journey of sheer idiocy. For the last hour I kept waiting for the naive, self centered, deluded, protagonist to meet his fateful end at the hands of the gods he taunted.
The story does have elements of Greek tragedy. But this young man was no more heroic than the typical teen runaway. He was just better educated and should have had more of a clue. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This movie was brilliantly executed, in the vein of the Beat generation, and gorgeous nature films. I felt like I was visually experiencing the writing of Jack Kerouac. Emile Hirsch was right on target, capturing the spirit of Supertramp. I definitely recommend this flick to the Existentialists out there. It has a beautiful message of human connection.
