Read More What an absolutely horrible piece of cinematic tripe. First of all , they overplayed the "dark" cinematography, the screen is so dark that half the time you can't even see what is going on. And the plot, or the haphazard labryinth of nonsense that they attempt to pass off as a plot, is almost non-existent. It's simply a gore fest that looks like it was edited with a pair of dull scissors and a blowtorch. It's a real shame, because the original AVP movie was actually pretty good. I will never regain the time that I lost watching this crap (on fast forward nonetheless) nor will I regain the time spent thinking about the sheer memory of this crappy film. Alien is disgraced...Predator is disgraced...Jesse Ventura and Arnold are spinning in their graves. The only good part is when the blond teenage love interest gets split in half. But that isn't worth the rent. If you rent this movie, I highly recommend that you use the DVD as a mirror so you can see yourself act out what you think the movie should be...you will enjoy it 100% more. Now I have only watched ... Read More O.k., I consider myself kinda hardend over when it comes to horror and sci-fi. I am all about the visuals and the reality of those visuals but I do like a good story too.
Now I have only watched this flic once but I have to say that I'm not really feeling the urge to sit through it again. It was just o.k. Decent to blow off an hour and a half but you really need to blow that 1hr & 1/2 in the dark. The settings for 98.9% of the film are very dark. I found myself as I was watching thinking, What!, wait, who hit who?, what? And maybe it's me and all the 4:20 appointments I've kept but I didn't really follow along with what was happening with the " " Hybrid creature.
In a nutshell:
Entertaining enough for a decent time waster,
Really dark and hard to see,
Sub plot or secondary story kinda unclear,
The former Horrorvault.com HorrorMaster gives this film

Normally Movie mode on HDTV is best for Blueray, but it was too ... Read More I had low expectations for this movie as it did not do well in theatres. But Blueray is best for Action movies so I rented this.
Normally Movie mode on HDTV is best for Blueray, but it was too dark in the opening sequence. Solution was to switch to Sports or Game mode which have less contrast/black.
I watched the Unrated version, with extra footage marker on so I could see know the extra scenes, which definitely enchanced the Action to Theatre version, and helped you with the plot. This is an escapist movie, so the best part are the action/fight scenes, not the plot.
Also the added scenes made the PredAlien hybrid more fearsome, and her breeding actions and final fight vs the Predator a good climatic finish.
With the settings and format noted above, this movie was SO much better than I and the family expected. Of 2 adults, 2 teens and 2 kids, the Unrated version ranked 3rd or 4th best of the Alien, predator and AVP movies. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||
