I didn't really understand it, but the second time around it made total sense. A good movie that you have to follow closely to get the subtle nuiances. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More Okay, this is a chick flick, but a sometimes very intense, horrifying, good one. However, the basic premise of this film has been done before at least several times, and at least once more intensely and successfully. Best Thurman in years, but she is a bit past the point where she ought to allow intense closeups. Wood is a really great actress, perhaps the best of her generation. She reminds me a lot of Linney. Read More Both my wife and I felt cheated at the end of this movie because we did not know for certain if the gunman shot himself or Maureen. The fact that Maureen was never seen as an adult made us suspect that she was killed, but this was never confirmed. One of the most unsatisfactory endings of all time. Was the husband really having an affair, or was his paramour a hallucination? Was there some significance to the fact that "Emma" was on one of the symbolic abortion tombstones? No way to make sense of this. We did not mind the fact that the film jumped back and forth between high school days and present time. If someone can help us understand this movie, I wish you would.
