Read More This is a remarkable work, beautifully written, directed, and acted. It is somewhat of a period piece, really focused on capturing the state of East Germany in 1984, and it does so superbly. It is not really a thriller, nor suspenseful in the traditional sense. The emotional struggles that the characters go through, however, are gripping and powerful. I really felt as if I were in the movie, living under the dictatorship, and ... Read More For those who say the film is 'SLOW', the action is in the character study. You have to pay attention with this one. I really felt as if I were in the movie, living under the dictatorship, and experiencing a dull, dreary existence, because you couldn't call it "life". The director really brought the experience to the viewer, and that takes time. I recommend this to everyone, especially those who say things like government eavesdropping on its citizens is OK, "because if you haven't done anything wrong, what do you have to be afraid of?"
