Silk (2006) Reviews

One of the few, but also one of the best Sci-Fi films to come out of Asia. If you liked the movie "Event Horizon", then you might like this movie as they similarly combine horror and Sci-Fi. At no point did it seem possible to guess how the movie was going to end. The acting, directing, cinematography and special effects were excellent. Even though the movie apparently had a limited budget, the final product was impressively well done. The subtitles suffered from minor grammatical errors, but not enough to distract the viewer from the story. The only letdown was the lack of surround sound. Despite the 5.1 DTS audio option, the audio was in stereo. As for extras, there's a "Making of Silk" feature (32:47 min), an "Alternate Ending" feature (2:51 min), a "Deleted Scenes" feature (11:16 min), an "Outtakes" feature (3:18 min) showing the dozens of takes required to complete a single scene, a theatrical trailer for the movie and trailers for six other Tartan movies. Definitely recommended.

Its a ghost story in the middle of a scifi movie.. Truly unique. Were horror fans. There isn't any real jump out of your seat scenes, but still a great movie. If your tired of the same ole cookie cutter horror films....

This is one of my favorite movies. It is subtle and takes time to create characters. Asian film can be very subtle so you must pay attention to details in order to experience the full emotional complexity of this film. It is definitely for fans of movies like the "The Ring" and "The Others" as the horror comes from the disturbing nature of the scenes rather than action or gore. There is some good action towards the end of the film and it is visually stunning.

Of all the crappy foreign horror movie we get here in America, why on earth wasn't SILK brought in sooner? This is a great ghost story. I love the entire premise of throwing some sci-fi elements into the plot of trying to capture a ghost and study it. This movie draws you in right away and keeps you interested. We need more horror movies like this instead of nonsense like the grudge and the ring. See Silk now!

Finally a asian ghost story with not pissed off chick with black hair. I was happy that asian decided to mixed ghost story and scifi. They look at ghost more of science project and had some good theories. If your interest or a asian horror fantic try it out
