Read MoreWhile long, it didn't feel so as I was drawn into the rather dark subject matter of this film. The slow descent into obsession of Tang Wei's character and the eventual crack in the armor of her lover/victim was very interesting to watch and wonderfully filmed.
As to the subtitles, I suggest that this is a good reason to watch foreign films that are not dubbed in English. I thought the subtitles were appropriately short and left the viewer to enjoy the facial expressions and body language of the actors in greater depth. I enjoy the challenge and rewards of delving deep into the actors' performances without the crutch of literal dialog. The acting is wonderful, and his director of photography did a great job. This is a love story and a spy movie all in one. Mandarin Language Only used. The subtitles were in English but they were very quick in being shown. I could not enjoy the movie and ended the viewing after only 15 minutes.
