enjoy this one. I was completely drawn into the story, I felt every emotion. BRAVO! If you enjoy intelligent,

Lee really outdid himself with this work, the photography was stunning- so clear and vivid, and I thought the casting could not have been better.

Ang Lee makes the story very interesting and the characters are very fun to watch. As the story develops you find yourself getting involved in it. There are a lot of sex scenes, which really help for it's lenght. Shows how dangerous it is to get personally and intimatelly involved with the person you want to hurt. I liked the movie but I agree with one of the previous reviews. There was no chemistry between the woman and the man. But is that the point? Does this movie have a point?
I like long movies, unlike some people who will tell you how many minutes the film was I just lose myself in the story. 158 minutes? Really? Oh okay if you say so.
The acting was good, especially Tang Wei. Tony Leung is a fantastic actor but since I have only seen him in love and romantic movies like In The Mood For Love and 2046 so it is hard for me to accept him as a bad guy. [although I suppose some would argue he was a bad guy in 2046 but I would disagree].
So I spent the next couple days thinking about the movie, and it will be one I will watch again.

Read More Ang Lee has made another provocative, beautiful, well written and acted movie. This movie had alot of emotional undercurrents running throughout it's long story. Oh, for all people with subtitle problems - if you have a new TV as I have, just adjust the settings to English (or whatever your language is) and subtitles and adjust the movie tape itself at the beginning to your spoken language. This is a very well written and directed piece that takes you deep into the time and life of several young ideal college students. The fact they get caught up in a political plot that takes them way beyond any bounds they could of imagined is riveting to watch. The R rating allows this movie to take you to the edge of lust and passion in a very violent time and ends in a way that challenges the viewers own perceptions of both. This movie was ok, but nothing that great, and not just because it had subtitles. I don't mind watching foreign films with subtitles if I'm prepared for it and these subtitles for this movie went extremely fast, so there were times I had to rewind it to see what they were saying. The main actress in this film shows no emotion through the whole film. All the other actors were far more superior than her, what she was doing in this role, I don't know.
