It's a very depressive movie and dark (literally).
I wonder if the real Edith Piaf lived like that (for real) in the darkness.
I wonder if she really look 80 but only 44 years old of age.
I started to think she's 80, until she said "44"
It's a very depressive vision of Edith Piaf as well as negative.
I believe that should be a different way of delivering such a suffered person who reached success as well as admiration all over.
THe movie focused only on the sad part of her life. I thought it's very confused because only in the dark few minutes that she revealed she had a daughter and etc.
I disliked it a lot! I don't think that the actress did the greatest job either.

Read More While this was an enthralling and encompassing film, the true star is Marion Cotillard. She gave the audience a performance that will have you thinking about it days after you've seen the film. She was absolutely amazing in her portrayal, showing the life of a tortured woman from childhood, through stardom, and on to her downhill slide and premature death. Honestly one of the best actresses of our time! I hope we get to see Marion Cotillard in many more films. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The acting, the make-up, the costumes, the music...it all came together to tell a sad but thrilling story of a woman who took an inate talent and struggled through life with an innocence and frailness that propelled her to fame. The elements were in place: A decent story, great acting, a great setting, and music. Unfortunately, this movie misses the mark. The main reason for this is for some unknown reason, the director has decided to tell the story by jumping around in time, so that you can hardly follow the story. Add to this that some things are just unexplained, you're unclear about who certain characters are, and certain details that are important to the story are revealed at the end for no good reason. The only thing that saves this movie is the stunning performance by Marion Cotillard. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More When a movie description says Foreign, there is a good chance its in a language other than English. In addition, if you don't like subtitles here is a thought.......don't rent it! I'm rather tired of people bashing a movie due to the fact that it doesn't contain an english dubbing. If reading is difficult for you or your just too lazy to read subtitles stick to action films.......maybe they won't be so "boring." Simply embarrassing Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? This is rare talent you see only a few times in a lifetime. Sylvie Testud (as the best friend, Momone), is also brilliant. She sets off Cotillard like gem and setting. Comments like "slow", "boring", etc. are likely because Piaf is unknown to recent generations. The film moves a bit contemplatively in a FEW parts. This is a richly done character study to be enjoyed for the acting. There is some questionable editing. A key glance into a past element of Piaf's life is slipped into the end like an afterthought. It felt like I had earlier missed something in the story. The songs really should have included subtitles. Why did they brush off something crucial like that? This film is fine art in sets, costumes, music, and above all, acting. But, they could easily have worked it a bit more and it would be perfect. It's well worth seeing. Not a kids film.
