Starting with this poor girl in the French ghettos, left by her mother, put into storage in a brothel to be raised by prostitutes, dragged out later, and she sings. The portrayal was brilliantly done, but the story itself is mesmerizing. The music, ahh the music, it is wonderful. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It was sad at times but it helps the viewer understand Miss Piaf's life struggles and the reason why her songs sounded so sad at times. I feel Marion Cotillard deserves the Oscar for best actress, she did an outstanding job. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Even if you have no idea who Edith Piaf was (I didn't), this move will be an exhilarating experience for you. Marion Cotillard recently won the golden globe for her performance and should be a strong candidate in the Oscar race. Her transformation into Piaf is breathtaking. With the help of incredible makeup detail, she develops the posture, mannerisms and facial expressions of her subject to a detail not seen in many recent biopics. The cinematography is graceful and never dull. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This is truly a horrible movie. So badly lit I could hardly see what was going on except for the boxing match which was entirely unnecessary and the last shot with Edith in a powerful white spotlight which we would have appreciated seeing sooner. So badly written and direced it was impossible to feel anything for the garbled facts of her life. Marion Cotillard captured Piaf's gritty wit, her considerable courage and her down-toearth charm, the writer/director did not. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

My girlfriend loved it although she found it a little hard to follow, this was a sad movie of someones life, it had triumphs, and pitfalls. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The film drags on and on as we're bought forward and backward in time in the life of Edith Piaf - a tactic I usually like, but it didn't work in this film. For me, the film doesn't move in plot or emotion. Add that fact to subtitles, and it's a recipe for absolute boredom. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
