I loved the slow, poignant and realist path that the director took. Showing the underside of life, and staying consistent with Edith's personality (rough around the edges, as you would expect from anyone who grew up on the streets). Much different from the artificial glow that Hollywood depicts in most of its films. So if you enjoy pictures like "Walk the Line" (Johnny Cash), you might also enjoy La Vie En Rose. Like Johnny Cash, Edith battled with her daemons throughout the film, unfortunately she died at 47 and never seem to find much happiness in life. But I feel that she also lived life to the fullest, she laughed loud, worked hard, and cried hard... A great woman with an amazing talent. So if you expect to see a movie that is 100% true to history, you may not like this. Edith Piaf's life story is amazing, triumphant, and tragic. I highly recommend this movie. Read More The music is phenomenal in this biographical drama of tragic singing French star Edith Piaf (Marion Collard). The film moves from past to present stages of her frail life beginning in the shadow of a bordello as a child when abandoned by parents, the discovery of her talent, and finally her spin downward to a morphine addiction. Whatever her state, the passion of her singing talent is stunning. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I thought it would never end. The acting was fantastic however the movie bounced all over the place with many unanswered questions especially regarding her relationship with her girlfriend, her relationship with the fighter, he died in a plane crash going to a match, not a plane crash to see her as portrayed. There are pictures of her with his children on the internet therefore something else was going on other than the affair.
The singing was wonderful though. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I've loved Edith Piaf since childhood and was completly dissapointed with this movie. The movie keeps playing the same note: sickly "orphan" child turned alcoholic hag. The screenplay is all over the place; it keeps jumping time periods and I got the aging makeup confused at several points ("was she 40 or 60 in this scene?"). Marion Cotillard's portrayal of Piaf is clownish, over-indulgent and superficial. Don't get me wrong, this movie is a real tear jerker, but you'll feel exploited in the end.
