The ending was dumb and the other two alternative endings didn't save the movie or add anything to it. John Cusack does a great job in his acting abilities but the story itself was a jumble of ghost stereotypes and just about every ghost affect was thrown in the movie, which made it go in many directions but nothing to really make it interesting. I was really disappointed in this movie but once it was over and I saw that it was a Steven King movie, It explained to me why it stunk so bad as every movie of his is terrible, but this one is probably the stinker of them all. Read More This movie couldn't have been more of a let down. The movie progresses at a very very slow pace and is more of a psychological thriller than anything that could even be remotely classified as horror. The previews for this movie are a real let down as well seeing as those are the most intense parts of the film and take about 40mins to an hour to even get to. If you are really looking for a movie that has a crumby ending and doesn't really go in depth into the images they reference, watch this movie. If you're looking for a movie that has you on the edge of your seat, thrills around every turn, and an ending worth the name Stephen King, watch Thinner or The Shining. This movie doesn't come close to either of those and I'm really glad I didn't waste the price of a movie ticket on this one. Real disappointment. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? It even had a sequence where the main character is crawling around in a huge oversized AC duct! No new concepts, no new ideas, just recycled bits from other better movies. Just rent the Shining or 13 Monkeys, don't waste your time with this one. I can't believe some people reviewed it so highly. Read More what a tease. this movie started off AWESOME. it even ended on a decent note. but certain scenes were just drawn out way too much and it just seemed to go its own way. its a stephen king thing i guess, he tends to ruin some of his books by doing this as well. at least this time, he ended it ok. i wish someone would take the first half of the movie and stick with it better and make a movie about that. Read More I was extremely excited when I heard about 1408 and all along that excitement kept building. Then finally I watched it and in all honesty I was disappointed. I've read the other reviews and it really seems that people love or hate this one. I guess I am one of the few stuck midway. I DO see the similarities with The Shining and in all honesty this is not the first of King's recent work I've had to ask myself, "is he fresh out of ideas and recycling his earlier works?". But the two films are not identical. 1408 starts out strong, it has a lot of disturbing elements that make it worth the efforts of getting through but the end (even the alternative one) is so lack-lustre be warned you may be asking yourself why you bothered.
