Read More No doubt there will be comparisons to The Shining. Both involve alcoholics with difficult family histories who stay at a hotel with a similarly checkered past, and we become witness to the merging of their twisted "souls". While this isn't up to the par of The Shining, it does a pretty good job of making that experience nearly as creepy. I agree that the ending falls short -- it was, after all, a short story, not a novel. If the final scene played the Carpenters song again, it would have been perfect -- a missed opportunity. The story could have done with some more thickening out of the creepy characters as well. We never really get a good sense for why they are there, whereas in The Shining, we meet some of them more intimately. Samuel Jackson is an odd choice, but he does a decent enough job. John Cusack is surprisingly fantastic though! Well done. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

this movie is really disturbing. I left the theater with chills. I mean it really makes you think. It's NOT A GOOD MOVIE
for people who get scared very easily. They could almost faint. Seriously. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

John Cusack plays a good character with an intense backline as a horror authority and his plight very legitimate. The movie provides you a good premise with a great strory line only to trip up at the end. There are no "jump out and scare you" moments but a general madness theme exists. The ending raises eyebrows though as it seems completely random . If you are expecting a standard horror flick ending you will be disssapoined as the end doesn't seem quite belivable or realistic. It was a really good, really well acted, old fashion ghost story. I would have given it 5 stars if it had a better ending, though the DVD gave us a choice of three. None of them were the perfect ending for the otherwise great story. Don't let that stop you from seeing it though, if your heart can stand a few "GOT-CHAS". Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? This does not give justice to the story I read years ago. In fact no movie adapted from a Stephen King novel has ever lived up to the book. This was not scary, intense or suspenseful. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for these characteristics in a movie. I would not watch it again. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
