Day Watch and Night Watch are two of the best sci-fantasy movies ever produced. AND the highest grossing movies ever in Russia and international blockbusters. Many FX in the "Watch" films were groundbreaking and more innovative than anything seen Stateside at the same time - plus their American release dates were long after their original Russian premiers. No studio can claim ascendancy in the FX department. Simply put, FX technological breakthroughs are quick, dazzling and universal. Yet these films were done at less than 10 mill each with the unprecedented cooperation of every major studio in Russia. Day Watch upped the ante of Night Watch tenfold! With dizzying plots and fine acting that comment poetically on good, evil and the indelible choices that inform the human soul. And these films have NEVER been marketed as the "Russian Matrix" or the "American" anything. Do yourself a favor and WATCH these FILMS!!!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

Read More we rented Day Watch on a lark and really enjoyed it, but I guess that was because we knew it was a foreign film and would be dubbed or have subtitles. This one was just as good. The first one definately did well in Russia since they had more money for effects this time. I thought the acting was fine, it is hard to tell since we were watching the dubbed version, but it translated well. I want to find the books these movies were adapets from! But what could I really ask for - after the director botched the first film and taking a huge detour from the book and not actually finishing out the book either - I really couldn't expect this one to be much better. The plot makes much more sense when you read the books but that only makes the movie worse. The director just picked items he like out of the books, used the same characters, and basically wrote his own story. If you have read the books, don't bother watching Night Watch or Day Watch. Read More If you consider yourself far ahead on the spiritual path, if you are familiar with various concepts of metaphysical, ocult and supernatural, if you love high speed action and rollercoster entertainment, then this film is for you. Great special effects are combined with strong spiritual messages. However they do not knock you on the head, instead, they force their viewers to read between the lines or, better yet, between the frames. Two thumbs up. I only with the translation into English would've been better. There is a lot of stuff missinig or taken out of context..:( Try to watch it with someone who is fluent in both language and can clarify some of the dialogue.
