It's what Scream should have been. The acting and dialog were great and the murders were on a whole other level. It was supposed to be campy and funny and it succeded without being a goofy parady. To those of us who miss the days of over the top slasher movie of the 80's THANK GOD for Hatchet. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

(wasn't shot with a high 8 in your grandma's basement.) A great cast. (actors you've actually seen before!) and some decent innovations in the horror genre.
Horror fans may be a little disappointed in some of the character makeup with the main monster, but you're all jaded anyway. There is plenty of GORE!
Also has the best damned Tony Todd cameo in history... Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I am here to say I had the highest of hopes for Hatchet & was anxiously awaiting it's DVD release. I saw it clocked in at 83 minutes & that gels with your standard 80's horror flick length. It had a great trailer but the movie is NOTHING like the trailer & that is not a good thing in this case. The sets were lame, the scares were non-existent (for me anyway), and the gore was over the top cheesiness. The actors were a mixed bag of cliches.
Sadly, Victor Crowley was laughable as the victim/villan & I actually was laughing out loud when he burst through doorways, etc. & puffed out his latex muscles.
Anyway, rent "The Descent" if you want to experience true bone-chilling horror.
This is a dud wrapped in pretty Xmas paper for us............ Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I was quite excited after that to see this movie. From the beginning of this movie I was shocked that Anchor Bay spent so much effort into their promotions. This movie shouts horribly cheesy!! I forced myself to watch the whole thing hoping that it would get better but alas the end came which was so easy to figure out. If you are seriously in the need of a B- movie with good actors but cheesy special effects and really no new plot - this is the movie for you. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

A lot of blood and gore in death scenes. Main characters male and female lead - only 2 characters with any sense. Funny token black guy. Stupid other girls perfect to be picked off one by one. I was entertained. I don't think this was very scary, but it was fun to watch. Modern version of classic horror is right but this was not as good. Worth a watch for slasher fans. Read More This movie has a very cliche horror plot (the "different" kid gets hurt/killed by cruel kids, and grows up a gruesome killer hell-bent on revenge). Very Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw-like, but not scripted nearly as skillfully as those. However, this movie is a feast for the gore-lovers. I can never, ever recall a movie where the death scenes are so gruesome, and what makes them gruesome is that the victims don't die easily - a guy has his arms ripped off, a woman has a chainsaw shoved down her throat and still survives another minute on-screen! Some may love it, but the weakness of the script was too much for the gore to overcome for me. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
