After reading about the series in a magazine, my interest was sparked. I must say that after renting Volume One, I was hooked. It's like reading a good book that you just have to keep going to see what happens. The series centers around one family of Polygamists and how not only the world, but their families direct their decisions, good or bad. It's about the ups and downs of marital life, how different every is, even in a family with one central ideal. You see the good and bad of the lifestyle. Even though it's a fictional story, it gives you a sort of understanding about how and why Polygamists do what they do. Even if you feel that this series is not something you would be interested in, give it a try.

My sister recommended this to me so I gave it a try. After one episode I think I was somewhat hooked, and now I've viewed the entire first season. The ensemble cast is just great, this is every bit as complicated and well done as Sopranos and I hope it gets some recognition. With a cast that includes Bill Paxton, Harry Dean Stanton, and Bruce Dern, it is at once colorful and always entertaining. Give this one a try if you'd like something a little different.

I gave this a try after a friend suggested it (lol, and I read the synopsis online), and still am surprised and delighted with it. I tried watching it with my husband, but knew he'd not be interested, most likely writing it off as a Lifetime Network show, but surprisingly enough, at the end of the first disk, he admitted he liked it. This show really gets you thinking!

I've now seen the entire Season 1 of Big Love and actually did enjoy it. I've never had an exposure to anything to do with Polygamy or the problems associated with it. This program handled the matter very delicately and I really did enjoy watching it all the way through.

I wasn't sure if I would like this show... I took a big chance and rented it. And WOW... I am SO hooked that I am going through withdrawls until January (when season 3 comes out). Season 1 was a little slower, and it definitely picks up in season 2. They had to do a lot of backstory to explain- but well worth the wait- it's like a juicy book that just keeps getting better, and harder to put down! I am more excited about this show then any of the others I watch. (Some other favorites are; Weeds, and The L Word - if that helps at all.) Regardless of what faith you are- this show is a must see!

Bill Henrickson is a Utah businessman with 3 pretty wives and 7 kids; they live in three houses in a row, so each wife has her own. This is outrageous; he owns a home improvement business, and while it's successful, it couldn't possibly support everyone so well in the real world. The women are far too sophisticated and smart to have embraced the polygamous Mormon way of life, which is based on ignorance and poverty. There's plenty of weird religion and plenty of sex as Bill divides his evenings among his wives. Drama is added by the scheming "prophet" who controls the compound and is the father of one of Bill's wives - he has a financial interest in Bill's business, wants more, and uses his power and other devious measures to get it - and in the family's attempts not to be exposed in a society that has outlawed polygamy. The series isn't as good as "Six Feet Under", but like polygamy, it grows on you. Great cast work, and Harry Dean Stanton is a particular evil delight as the prophet.

I was curious about this series so I rented it, it's HBO after all what could go wrong? At first I was interested, the first few episodes were fun but after a while I started feeling like I was watching a train wreck and I couldn't look the other way!! The characters aren't that interesting (except for Margie, she's funny), the story line goes all over the place and it's hard to stay awake...overall I just hated the whole premise of the 3 wives and the clingy family...why can't he just kick his father and his wives to the curb?? Just obnoxious, made me feel like breaking stuff.

The characters are great and the acting was very well done but I don't know anybody that could live like that. What man can handle 3 wives, 3 mortgage payments, 3 cars, and all the rest that comes with this polygamist lifestyle? In addition, what woman would want to share her husband and watch him being affectionate with his other wives? I watched the first disc and will have to remove the rest from my queue. I try to be open-minded but this is just too much for me.
