It was WAY too long, started out unhappy and just became more abysmally depressing as it went on. None of the characters are particularly "likable" and, by the end, we frankly didn't CARE about any of them. Then the rest of the movie came and I wished it were over. My husband and I both could not believe how disjointed and weird this movie was. What was with the crazy religious cult? We thought this was going to be a movie about an old fashioned oil man who gets greedy and ruins other people's lives. Instead it is about a bunch of nuts. And the last scene is disgusting. The review of Blockbuster members is so much better then the movie critics who phrased
the movie and gave it Best Picture ratings; like John W one of the people who wrote a review said if it rated Best Picture it probably stinks. The only thing my husband and I figured was the makers of this movie were trying to knock capitalisms and religion as both being of little or no value. I told my husband that before I heard about the reviews I had a feeling this movie would be bad and what a lousy ending.
