The best acting performance ever! De Niro is brilliant He plays a women beater and man beater that fights his own demons in and out of the ring. De Niro gains 40 lbs to play Jake La Motta in his later club owning days. It's not slow. Every movie has character building. The fight scenes are epic. The camera work is unbelievable. It's like no other fight scenes. It makes Rocky fight scenes look done by a community broadway. You cannot be a movie freak and not see this. This movie shows what true acting and great film acting is all about!

It's an artful picture. The pace gives it a sense of being there at that time. It's full of great lines and moments. It's what life is made up of, e.i., moments. Forget that Bobby D. gained and lost 60 LBS. Those actors became other people. The characters are far more interesting than the actors. Don't see this picture because Pesci & DeNiro are in it. See it because it's great story telling. Excellent!

Robert DeNiro at his best. So good you think he was Jake LaMotta. Scorsese keeps you intrigue till the very end the about a true story of a monster boxer and a monster of a man. Must see for all.

I never saw this movie. I remember the pictures of DeNiro when he gained all the weight for this movie. It's pretty good. This DVD has 3 comentary tracks. It isn't that great. These filmakers not like each other so they each had to have their own private commentary.

Sport movies are not my favorite. But this is a classic, so it had to be watched, if solely for the claim. Let me tell you folks: steer clear of this if you have problems putting up with tedious story. It's undeniable that this really does not have a great story to it: angry boxer boxes, marries second time, boxes again and eventually wins championship, gets fat and becomes a poor comedian washout whose mentioned wife divorces him. And it's in black and white, giving the fights a special viciousness, but it could put some people off. However, one should check it out for the acting. Joe Pesci is great; his character molding is near perfect and just as good as in Goodfellas. De Niro is also fantastic, a fact which has been said time and again. One can feel the rage and paranoia La Motta sweats, always distrusting, and De Niro gaining weight at the end is a feat to be seen. Not a Best Picture winner by far, but in other respects, it wins.

I was sort of let down by this movie. I was ecpecting something much better with actors like Robert Dinero and Joe Pesci. I figured this was going to be a great movie no matter what. It didnt even look like Robert Dinero. It almost looked like they added a different nose on his face. I kept watching to see when it was going to get good and it never really got me into it. The sound quality was terrible.

I was really let down by this movie. I was ecpecting something as good as Taxi Driver. I love Robert D. and Joe P. so I figured this was a no brainer great movie and all the hype around it lead me to beleive it was out of this world. I kept watching to see when it was going to get good and it never really got me hooked. The sound quality was lousy. One scene would be super low, almost whispers; and the next scene would be blow your ears off loud. one good point. the photography in the film is great.
