She gets the job done, has a heart and a funny streak that she is unaware of. The supporting cast is wonderful and I never miss a show...I even watch the re-runs as if for the first time, might have missed something. I hope this show is around for a long, long time. It can hold it's own w/ the Law & Order series.

Read More If you enjoy a very good movie with romance and adventure and risk then this is the series for you! It has a very nice romance which is refreshing with all of those gory movies out now. If you enjoyed Grey's Anatomy then you will love this. I am more of a lawyer than a policeman so I am kind of biast but I really enjoyed it so give it a chance! I know you will enjoy it! Read More Our sister-in-law got us hooked to The Closer by showing us disk one and two of Season 3 on a recent visit. I immediately went home and ordered season one and have season two in my queue. We LOVE this show! It's the only TV show we can watch 3 or even 4 shows of in one evening and still watch 3 or 4 the next night. Kyra has always been one of my favorite actresses (since "Steel Magnolias"), and the supporting cast is excellent. Season one answers a lot of questions if you've seen season three and wonder about relationships, how Brenda Lee Johnson got the job, etc. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

Read More I have been watching the Closer since it started, but my husband joined in season 2 and his daughter got hooked this year so I thought they should see how it started. Read More This is one of the best TV series out there, but it's a sleeper. You can only get the series online from Blockbuster, not in the stores ( at least in my area.) . A woman is the heart of the show, but Brenda is totally unique -- vulnerable, quirky, unpredictable, but amazingly effective. Her Southern drawl is disarming. She's surrounded by a great supporting cast, lots of subplots. Definitely worth renting the series-- but it should also be in the stores. Bring on season 2. . They wanted to show a female as an authority figure, but it ... Read More I watched the entire first season, and didn't enjoy it at all. The lead should have been a detective, and not an assistant police chief. They wanted to show a female as an authority figure, but it was simply bizarre to see an assistant chief intimately involved with single investigations.
Also, Brenda, the lead, was not an attractive character. She was self-absorbed, and saw other people, including her boyfriend, as simply tools to get what she wanted. This theme could conceivably be drawn out in an interesting way, but I saw no hint of it in the first season. I saw nothing of interest in any of the characters.
In short, The Closer is simply a warmed-over Columbo series. It involves a mildly misanthropic lead whose main talent is to solve unlikely crimes. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
