Although the director and producer seemed to take a few liberties with the true story from the Bible, it flowed very well. I would recommend this movie for viewing at almost any age. I can sit through this movie again and again and DO plan on purchasing the video! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Acting was OK, but it won't win an Oscar. Our primary objection was that the writers felt it was necessary to alter many of the details of the Biblical account in order to produce this movie. I understand the need to "flesh out" various details, but in their efforts to do this they did not have to change known, documented facts, i.e. Esther had 2 dinners for the King & Haman, not just the one in the move, and the King caught Haman being too familiar with Esther when he was begging for his life, not attacking her as shown in the move. There were quite a few other deviations, both large & small. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This only had the bones of the original text but I think with todays' artists this is a beautiful story of love and purity in the greatest of traditions given to us through new media with a little license taken. A true story that sends the essence of glory to God through the humble, and the favor of God on the pure in heart. I watched it twice with my wife and we will be buying this movie soon. She also was touched deeply by this great story telling. Good bones for an excellent movie. Read the book!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Tiffany Dupont does her best but the script lets her down. It inserts two many fictional characters and takes too many liberties with the biblical text. Some characters help Esther make the right decision, where in the Bible, Esther knows the right decisions due to her prayerful life, her faith in God, her godly character, and courage. The final confrontation between Esther and Haman is anticlimactic. This movie could have been way better! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More The credits say "One Night with the King" is based on the novel "Hadassah." It sure ain't based on the book of Esther, and it's not historically accurate, either. The movie is filled with anachronisms, not the least of which are the modern Christian attitudes of the ancient Jewish characters. The Book of Esther is essentially a secular tale, the only book of the Bible where the name of God does not appear. The costumes look like a cross between "A Lion in Winter" and "Lawrence of Arabia," neither of which had anything to do with ancient Persia... hmmm... come to think of it, both of those had Peter O'Toole, too. Maybe it's HIS fault. Shushan looked more like something out of "Lord of the Rings." And what was up with that Star of David disco thingie Esther wore around her neck?
