There are a few faults with this ... Read More Movie started off with a decent enough plot- Married man in the 1800's has affair far far away from home(japan) . And falls in love with a japanese girl. There are a few faults with this film--This plot is nothing new that we havent seen before . The story-line is pretty predictable. The movie didnt do a good job in developing the love story between the man and the japanese girl. Their love story was half baked and half shaked. Never FULLY cooked. And its not like the movie didnt have the time. They took much time in showing us pointless scenery and such in his travels back and forth to japan.The movie's pace is so slow that you tend to dont care anymore and lose interest and want the movie to just hurry up and get over. The ending, although had a small twist still leaves you feeling empty and as though you wasted time on a movie that never built up any steam or momentum as a love story, which was its ultimate aim.It fired and missed.. He was terrible. No personality exhibited at all. The other reviewer also pointed out that too much time was wasted viewing the trek between France and Japan. I actually really liked it. If you prefer movies that are fast paced, ultra-stimulating and obvious then you may not like this one but overall I thought it was a well written, well acted movie. I especially love Keira Knightley in it. The cinematography was excellent, the story line was interesting and I like the twist at the end. There were some slow times but overall it was a good movie. Seriously, this movie may be visually attractive, but it is so INCREDIBLY dull, I fell asleep three times. I'm not sure how Michael Pitt got this gig...but I'd be surprised if he works again. The scenery is wonderful as is the acting but the story ... Read More This was one of the strangest movies i have ever seen. The description of the movie given does not even come close to what actually happens. The scenery is wonderful as is the acting but the story line was bizarre. First and foremost there is a lot of nudity by women in the cast. The one he wanted seemed to already be with someone unless he was her father. It did not appear the one night stand had anything to do with not being able to have a baby at home. Dutch men in Japan seemingly dying, possibly murdered, for unknown reasons. The head of the Japanese village turning on main character at end of movie. Letters being written for people that had no way of knowing anything based on timetables. The entire movie made no sense at all. I have never talked so much about a movie after it ended and for none of the right reasons. My wife, who loves these types of movies, also did not like it.
