Read More Cam Archers film, Wild Tigers I Have Known, is a familiar picture of what's ahead for many adolescents. The first rate acting portrays the origins of the anxiety that comes with the discovery that you're different. It describes our first taste of the religious bigots response to non-conformism, which runs the gamut from harassment and beatings to occasional murders - they call them hate crimes but really they're just old fashioned lynchings. For a desperate few the only escape from the torments of bigotry is self destruction.
Combine that with mind-numbing boredom at school and idiots called parents and you've got a blueprint for alienation and rage that just won't quit. The importance of this subject to the lives of millions of gay and lesbian youth demands a fuller treatment and better direction than it gets in this film, which is also flawed by the use of far too many cute and silly special effects like gaudy neon spiders and psychedelic light shows. All of the other reviews are correct. This movie was VERY hard ... Read More I got this movie because it said it had Fairuza Balk in it. Turns out she just played the mother character and was hardly in the movie. All of the other reviews are correct. This movie was VERY hard to get into, especially into the first half...it's very disjointed and has random strings of events that don't really seem all that important. Spiders crawl across the screen for no apparent reason, and there are a lot of strange camera angles. I think the movie is just trying way too hard to be different. There were parts of the movie I liked- the actors did do a great job with what they had, I just think the movie needs to make a little more sense and actually have a purpose for people to want to watch it. Oh, and the ending is abrupt and random as well, it just didn't seem like the movie was over. Read More this is the saddest film i have ever seen. i was so upset after i saw it. maybe it just had qualities that are very personal to me, but i found it so terribly sad. there are some REALLY great parts of this film, and some really bad parts. the first fifteen minutes or so go by SO slowly. i almost stopped watching it. some parts are so abstract and opaque that you don't know what's going on (and i'm not sure there always actually is). but i gave it a chance and i'm glad i did. this film isn't for everyone, i'm not even sure it's for me, because i don't know who likes getting upset.
