Read More This movie takes all the dark aspects of the book and twists them into a dysfunctional family/relationship movie while ignoring (or botching) all of the fun, whimsical, wonderful moments from the book. With James Gandolfini voicing one of the main characters I kept waiting for him to whack somebody or go see his therapist (he certainly needed an intervention of some kind)...definitely felt like a heavy dose of Sopranos influence. Some of the cinematography is great and but I left the theater scratching my head over the conception and execution of this movie. I would not say it's a horrible movie but it's not what I was expecting, it's not for kids and most of the characters are so completely unlikeable that it is difficult to view them with any sympathy. I guess they all need to be sent to their rooms without any dinner and maybe they can then find a different island where they might be happier. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? I was excited to see that this book was being made into a movie. I have been reading this book to kids for years. I took my own kids to see this movie. What a disappointment! This movie was terrible! It was dark and violent! They could have done so much more with this movie and made it kid friendly. It was a ridiculous story line and didn't make any sense. If you love this book don't see the movie. It will change your feelings about this story. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Was it slow and subtle? Yes. Not every movie has to be a non-stop action and no-story Jackie Chan flick or a potty-humor comedy. Well I guess it does these days.
I will say that this movie is more for adults who remember and loved the book as a child more than it is for children. That being said my kids loved it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Absolutely, positively the worst movie I've seen in years. Lousy for kids(violent and scary), lousy for adults(no story line whatsoever), lousy for teens(my teenager asked me what was going on). Whatever Hollywood brown-noser concluded that Spike Jonze has improved on the book is either gunning for their own good review, or hasn't seen this tripe. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Kent B's review was spot-on!!
Can you see the character of Max on the movie poster? Do you see what he is doing? That is how I felt watching this movie! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I HATED THIS MOVIE! I am not even ex saturating this made no sence whatsoever now there are some pretty stupid story lines, but this one didn't even have a story line!!! Like he got in a fight with his mom, jumps in a boat and discovers a island were there is a whole bunch of weird monsters. And don't say that it is made for little kids cause its actually kinda violent. There are monsters throwing big dirt balls at each other and 1 even bleeds!!!!!! Look there are so many other things you could do in these 2 hours DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Going into it, I didn't think that I would. The movie starts out a little slow, but about 20 minutes into it, I started to get interested. The acting was pretty good for just being a kid and a bunch of monsters. And I love that they made this book, which I grew up on, into a movie that you can relate to. It's simply too complex. There are so many brilliant things said and half-said through body language and facial expressions -even in the costumed/animated 'wild things'- easily picked up on and appreciated by someone above ten years old. It's an adult movie in the sense that an adult could come to love it entirely for everything it conveys and the original methods it uses to convey them. If you want to see a well-made movie, it's well worth the watch. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
