Read More This is the kind of movie that should be shown in high schools so our children can see how people hundreds of years ago reacted to slavery. It would also be interesting to see how many people really understand the words to the song, "Amazing Grace." A very moving film. This one is one of those. A thoughtful, earnest telling of how slavery was abolished in England, long before the Emancipation Proclamation in the US. I appreciated the story of honorable men who would not stop putting forth the truth in the face of overwhelming opposition. As they say, "Evil abounds when good men do nothing". The though Wilburforce, well- played by Ioan Gruffudd, almost wanting to quit many times kept doing what is right beyond selfless giving it all down to even his health. I have watched this video four times so far and will continue to do so. I had to research more about William Wilburforce who fought his life for the freedom of all slaves in UK. Even his wife Barbara Schooner, about 20 years his younger stood by her husband and gave him 6 children. He was born in 1757 and died 1833, three days after the passage of the Abolition of Slavery Act which made it illegal to have slaves throughout the UK! Read More I thought it was a good story about William Wilburforce, however, it depicted John Newton inaccurately. This writer of Amazing Grace was portrayed as a guilt-ridden old preacher, when in real life, he was at peace with his God as the song says. Read More The story of William Wilberforce and his efforts to abolish slavery & slave trading in Britian as a member of parliment in the late 1700s. Grand performances and inspiring dialoge. My only qualm would be the hopping around in time - sometimes became annoying, and for me would have been better to tell the story from start to finish - overall though a very fine film.
