If you liked the show, you will enjoy this set. However, I was wanting to see the original Charles all the way through. The girl who plays Laura looked and acted so much like Melissa Gilbert that I didn't notice the difference.
There was back to back action and my kids (boys, 8&10) were wanting to see more of the slower pace of the Ingalls' tv life. Maybe my kids are just unique, but I was feeling the same way. It was almost like it was too action-packed, but then I thought, maybe that's just prairie life when you've condensed it into a 4hr show.
Maybe because of the action and adventure, it even caught my husband's attention and he's not a fan.
All in all, this is a treat for fans and for those who are not fans. . .well, it's just a great movie, especially for the family. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I had wanted to rent the Little House on the Prairie TV series for my child to watch, but accidentally got this one instead. At first I was very disappointed as it wasn't the "show" I had thought I was renting, but we decided to watch anyway. It was very entertaining and our family thoroughly enjoyed it. Sometimes, you just can't watch the same movie with different actors, but this one got you to actually like the characters (even though they weren't really the Laura and Mary that you knew from childhood!). We've only gone through disk one at this point, but we've now requested disk two and can't wait for it to arrive! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I, too, enjoyed the original series and my kids have been watching all of those on DVD. I was SO EXCITED when I saw that they made this and what's more- Erin Cottrell was in it! The movie was good, my kids (boy 9, girls 2,4,6) enjoyed it as well but it's not the story given in the description!!!! It could be called "Little House in the Big Woods" or "Little House: The Early Years".
It starts out with them living a city w/their parents and their move to Kansas (before their move to Walnut Grove). It really does tell their hardships and is very good. It ends with them leaving Kansas and what eventually turns into their move to Walnut Grove, Minnesota- they even talk at the end about how Minnesota has good soil or something of the sort. In the very first episode of Little House (TV), Charles tells Caroline that he's not going to let happen here (Walnut Grove area) what happened in Kansas. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More I watched the first two episodes of this when it aired on television, and couldn't make myself watch any further. Of course, I knew it couldn't hold a candle to the original television series, but I had expected much more out of Disney. Furthermore, I am part Native American, and I was appalled at the negative manner in which the Indians were portrayed in this movie. After great films like Dances with Wolves and Thunderheart, I thought Hollywood was past the stereotypical Native American, but apparently I was wrong. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
