A sweet, gentle story of an immigrant farmer and a mail-order bride. Wonderfully acted by all, I especially loved Tim Guinee's and Elizabeth Reaser's performances. This film isn't action-packed or lewdly explicit, and the only cursing is in German, and for all that, I found it refreshingly safe & enjoyable. I highly recommend it.

Cinematically beautiful and wonderful performances by all. A sweet story of a mail-order bride in the 1920s brought to Minnesota who was thought to be Norwegian but is German. The movie shows the correlation between the prejudice & inter-personal struggles this couple had to endure to the physical struggles on the land they worked so hard to hang onto. The film takes us from the 20s to the 60s to present time throughout the movie which at times seemed too fragmented, but over-all just a lovely story.

A beautiful and charming love story. Olaf and Inge are stubbon and tenacious as they are ostracized by the Norwegian community where Olaf lives. Inge, a German immigrant after World one, brings a love of music and life to this severe community. The young couple handle their situation with dignity and courage. I would definitely see it again

It was actually a very beautiful movie. It started out slow but when you get ropped into the story it is very endearing to see how much he loved her but could not express it.

truly a wonderful film rich with friendship, community, sacrifice and in the end love. sure no one gets shot, no screaming cars or bombs going off. just real people, real situations and the idea of family to get them through hard times. the premise that doing the right thing is the right thing, always. although it may hurt you, in the end, beleif in the ones you love, will always be the true warmth in your heart.

It was a slow beginning, but if you stick with it you can begin to uinderstand what's going on ... and it turns out to be a good love story without the swearing and nudity common to a lot of modern films. A little more development could have been done on how Inge won her neighbors over enough to give them the money to save their farm, but just a minor flaw - those pieces probably ended up on the cutting room floor in order to kep the flow of the story going. Definitely worth renting.

I borrowed this movie based on the reviews. Very dissappointed in the movie. It was very slow moving, and all though it was a nice family film with a story of good ethics, it wasn't enough to keep ones attention. This film would be good to show in school.

While perhaps not one of the best movies I have ever seen, it was an entertaining, warming "chick-flick," good for women of all ages.
