The Prince and the Showgirl (1957) Reviews

My teenager and I enjoyed it very much. Although the male characters think they have all the power here, it is the "dumb blonde" who has them all dancing to her tune. The film has a very old-fashioned moral: show your loved ones every day that you DO love them. Marilyn is adorable, and very funny. Family friendly? There is no cursing (unless it's in German, I couldn't translate), or violence. Although the sexy actress is invited to a seduction (midnight supper), it is handled delicately. (Yes, she does finally fall for the guy, and adults will conclude that she sleeps with him.) This film was all done on sound stages (except for the clips of the abbey during the coronation). Don't watch it for cinematography or gorgeous locations. View it like a stage play, and enjoy.
