They related it to Harry Potter. But i thought it wa nothing like it. It was a pretty good movie. One for the family.

My kids certainly enjoyed this movie, but I found the whole thing simply bizarre. First, it certainly bore no real resemblance to the Harry Potter stories or movies; the magical element of the story only emerges fairly late in the script and in fact seems out of place. Moreover, the idea of all these kids with British accents living as runaways in Venice, where the locals also have British accents struck me as really strange (and I'm British-born). The acting generally was very weak, even from the adults, although I have to say it was nice to see Alexei Sayle in a fairly big role. All in all, not the best of entertainment values.

I saw a review of this movie in Family Fun Magazine so we checked it out. We all loved it. Kind of like Oliver with some magic.

I read the book when i was in the 11th grade and when i went back to the store to get another movie, i saw it on the shelf and was very surprised. i of course rented it and went straight home to watch it. i wasnt disapointed at all! it has of course some differences from the book, but still a very good movie about freindship and loyalty and stuff like that. great movie for families.

Not as good as I had hoped based on the member rating and reviews. Event though it was only 1 1/2 hours it still seemed a little long. Predictable but good for the whole family. Worth a rent.

Advertising execs need to quit trying to ride the coattails of popular works. Thief Lord suffers because it is advertised as being in the "tradition of Harry Potter" - what it is in the tradition of is a good story about kids, more along the lines of Oliver Twist, than Harry. In fact, I half expected something to happen with regard to the two boys' heritage, but nothing came of it, which is probably just as well. The Oliver Twist story has been told enough. There are some surprising twists in the story which keeps it interesting and the performaces are consistently good. FX, Music, getting both widescreen & full screen all add up to four stars and good family entertainment.
