If you are a conspiracy nut, you may be disappointed. I liked the even handed way the movie presented multiple sides of a very complex subject that included a hobo stew mix of technology, marketing, govt, legal, consumers, enviro cops, and hollywood activists. And with oil zooming over 100 bucks per barrel, this flick about the EV1 electric car is both interesting and timely. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More If you are feeling as thought the oil industry is taking advantage of us, or if you are spending upwards of 10% of your income on transportation, you might enjoy this film. I found it to be an eye opening film revealing the truth about the current technology as it applies to vehicles. I really liked the fact that the technology is here now, and the fact there are less moving parts and therefore less repair, and the fact that as the power companies get cleaner so does the car. I'm ready to buy one! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Well the accused and those found guilty here are many - simply saying it's not that simple. All about how in just a 10 year period the electric car was produced and then quickly taken OFF the market despite the satisfaction with the cars by those who drove them. They not only took them off the market - they recalled them all and crushed and destroyed them! I couldn' believe what I was seeing. Intresting and thought-provoking. Despite the natural bias towards the electric car, the evidence given is strong and qualitative. I found myself taking notes on the information provided. A great classroom film, this gives great insight into the capabilities of technology, as well as the change in economic climates, and our countries involvement in corporate dealings. Read More Whether or not you see this film as a slanted left film because of it's participants or even a one sided story by those who wanted an automobile alternative or who stood to gain from the production of the electric car, GM was caught with it's pants down. The fact is that over 10 years ago, GM had the technology to put forth quality alternative fuel electric powered cars that would no doubt be much, much better today than they were 10 years ago. GM deliberately chose not to pursue forward looking technology and this movie shows how they did it although no one can really figure out why. Surely, there are lots of co conspirators and the movie points those out. But the bulk of the story is about GM. This was an eye opening movie and particularly so with the recent need of a $25 Billion Dollar Bailout for GM. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I rented this movie because it is an intriguing question, what I got was another Bush hating, Clinton loving, corporate hating, film that you have seen a million times before. More propaganda than thought provoking, you will love this movie if you want to villify the president. When I viewed this movie, it was apparent that the big supporters of the EV1 loved the car because it was a great car, that cost a lot more to make than they paid. I bet maintainence would have been a nightmare if any repairs were needed, and should anything fail, these people would have sued GM up the yin yang. The reason they got such a great deal was the unrealistic regulations that the State of California placed on the manufacturers. You don't get this point of view in this movie. Is this worth a rent? I don't think so, but if you are a Bush hater, you probably already did. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Yet what spewed forth from the box was an uneducated one sided villianization. While some of the few real facts were interesting, the majority of the content is numbing and painful. But what could be expected of a film some of whose "expert interviews" are clueless celebrities that drive their hybrids for public appearance, yet who normally travel by limo and private jet.
