Read More i was expecting to not like this movie because i figured since it wasn't exactly very popular , it must be bad. (there were only a few on the shelf at blockbuster, even as a new release!) but i was actually very surprised. it was WAY better than 300. as in more gore and a tad more excitement and i enjoyed the story line more. the only thing that was laughable was the fact that some indians were atleast trying to have an authentic sort of accent, and some of them talked like they were from LA. funny, and a bit distracting. but not enough to not like it. my hubby and i both enjoyed it. Main character was awesome supporting character in Lord of the Rings, Theoldin's nephew I believe, Lead Horsemen of blah bla bob laba,
And what action movies aren't predictable?
Good guy scorn, bad guys lose and the good guy gets the girl.

Read More While showing more 'gore' than I like, the premise, action, scenery and stunts/effects made this an awesome movie. The Vikings were very scary, and portrayed more to life than usually depicted. The action moved at a slower pace in places, but was offset by very fast action scenes - you have to watch carefully to see what is going on. Having the Indians speak English was effective : we are seeing the action from their viewpoint, and need to understand them. The Vikings, as invading savage Beasts, are speaking their gutteral language, and are subtitled. The 'making of the movie' in the special features give you a broader appreciation for the location, stunts, cast and director. Not for kids under 17, for sure! Many inaccuracies and inconsistencies ... why are the Indians running around half naked in snow and ice while the Vikings are clad in heavy clothing? Why don't the Vikings know about avalanches, or understand that snow and ice melt in the springtime? Why don't the Vikings ever take their heavy armor off? Where did they carry all of those horses on the longboats? Why does a Viking boy raised by the Indians have greater skill with Viking weapons than the Vikings themselves? It possibly was true as the Vikings were a bloodthirsty lot. Why should it be any different that the Vikings slaughtered the Indians in early American when it seems that the Native American Indians were slaughtered by the newcomers to America. Of course, the Indians learned most of this from the past.
