I'm not normally into most grisly movies, but I'll make an exception for this one. The beginning was shockingly brutal -- I almost left the theater! But I'm so glad I stayed. The movie was dark (physically and emotionally), creepy, suspenseful, and compelling. It was beautifully filmed, and the characters were very well played, especially young Hannibal (Gaspard Ulliel) and Lady Murasaki (Gong Li). To get us into the heart and mind of a serial-killing cannibal sufficiently enough to make him a sympathetic character -- and one whose cause you champion almost from the get-go -- took some masterful movie-making skills.

I thought that the first Hannibal movies were better. Although I did like the idea of seeing Hannibal's upbringing and where he came from. There are a few scenes that were very disturbing to me.

The best hannibal movie ever. Not creepy....about Hannibal's sad childhood life and what drive him to be a psycho murderer. Better than "Silence of the Lamb."

I didn't care for the portrayal of Hannibal in this film. He did not look the same, speak the same, nor act the same as the character established by Anthony Hopkins. Gadpard Ulliel's protrayal of Hannibal may have been more authentic given Hannibal's Lithuanian heritage, which is irreconcilable with Hopkins' unabashed British accent, but it was Hopkins' cool, calculated character that movie-goers fell in love with.
