I liked many things about the film. The story is good, the acting top notch, and the scenes and costumes are lovely; however, it's just too long and requires too much effort to understand! So much of the dialogue is in different languages, and when you switch to english subtitles you get commentary about the film, which I found distracting. After an hour and twenty minutes I just lost interest. It might be a movie you have to watch in two sittings, or multiple times to fully apprieciate. Frankly, I don't like to work that hard to be entertained, and looking at the rating, neither do most American movie goers. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I usually enjoy movies like this, and the beginning was interesting, but then it quickly got very hard to follow and bored me to sleep, literally. I kept having to back and re-watch, and finally just gave up. I could have used subtitles for the dialog, espeically since alot of it is in other languages, which I assume would have been subtitled(?) but it was the director commentary track only. I watched the scenes with the feeling that something beautiful and powerful was happening but in the end walked away without understanding what Coppola was trying to say. Read More If the first half was condensed to 15 minutes and metaphysical concepts clarified (metaphysical does not mean confusing and ambiguous) and then segue to the young girl and the absolutely wonderful oriental studies professors from the Uni of Rome Cappola would have shined. The visuals were beautiful and Tim Roth's acting, as were the others, was fine. But the it needed a heavy hand with editing. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More After a 10 yr. hiatus, Coppola, a master as far as I'm concerned, can make whatever he darn well pleases... and he did! I warn off anyone looking for the action of Godfathers I & II or Apocalypse Now. This movie is kind of like Catch 22. It contains both fairytale and logic, rebirth and reincarnation. This movie is very subtle, cerebral and beautiful. Tim Roth masters every nuance of his multi-dimensional character. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
