This documentary is nearly unbearably bad for the first half, not helped by the fact that it centers on one of the most obnoxious human beings who ever lived. I only kept watching it because I was crazed with boredom, stuck in my apartment, and had nothing else to do. In the second half it finally gets slightly interesting. Unfortunately, the makers of this film are not skilled documentarians. There is a lot of "filler." Lots and lots of shots of ocean waves.

This was one of the best movies I ever watched. First, because it is an extremely unique story which happens to be true. Second, it has a little bit of everything. Family dysfunction, family love, surfing, unique views on sex, complete and utter candor. Really, do watch this movie if you have any sense of originality. Doc Paskowitz may seem eccentric, but a lot of what he says makes a whole bunch of sense.

One of the better documentaries I have seen in a while. A beautifully put together movie that somehow makes a not-quite-happy ending seem like the happiest ending ever.

The trailer reveals none of the garbage filth that proceeds from Doc Paskowitz's mouth for most of the film and reveals that having sex in front of your kids every day and teaching them absolutely nothing about functioning in society will create a family rife with emotional problems and children that turn out to be embittered socially challenged lounge singers.
