The sequels pale in comparison to the first. Yet, this was pretty good-the costumes, the acting-Cate Blanchett is superb, and the history as it unfolds. No real chemistry between Blanchett and Clive Owen who looks simply delicious, but there really wasn't supposed to be as you'll find out when you watch the movie. I had a good time seeing Elizabeth so powerful, the jaded appreciation for Walsingham, her loyal subject and Elizabeth so human and vulnerable in the face of adversity as well as never being allowed Love for the sake of her throne. Watch it, It's worth it.

i didn't have problems following along, but i did find myself bored with the directors "romantic" moments...the first elizabeth was great as far as this goes, but if you are looking for the same sweetness you won't find it here...it got a little cheesy at times with strange camera angles and music...cate is amazing though, so if you don't mind these few downfalls, you'll find some brilliant acting from a true talent...

I enjoyed both the first Elizabeth movie with Cate Blanchett and this was fantastic too! It shows you the monarch side and human side of Elizabeth after all she was her father's daughter!

If you like period pieces and know your history this is a fantastic movie. I watched it with my 14 year old daughter and there were some places that we had to fast forward due to the violence on individuals who had different religious beliefs. It is a movie so it doesn't follow history exactly. Visually it is a feast...Elizabeth's costumes alone were stunning.

This was actually better than I expected. I am a big fan of historical epics, and this one covers a lot of the famous parts of Queen Elizabeth's time.
